Having completed her PhD in biochemistry at Imperial College in London Alison decided to come to the USA for a year to do post-doctoral research. That year of course turned in to several, including 2 years in Ontario, Canada. Her career in eye research began when she worked with Dr. Christopher Murphy, a veterinary ophthalmologist at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Alison joined the faculty of UHCO in 1998 where she teaches "the three ps" (physiology, pathology and pharmacology) to optometry students and does basic research. She is also part of the Texas Eye Research and Technology Center, a research facility within UHCO. When not working she tries desperately to keep the plants in her yard alive (gardening in Houston is not quite the same as in England!), dreams about penguins and takes Spanish lessons.
